Food and drink

Tea and coffee making equipment and supplies are in your room, with milk in the guest fridge downstairs. Breakfast is served in our dining room or, occasionally, in the courtyard. It features home made bread and preserves and home made muesli and granola. Cooked options include our own eggs, and our own or locally sourced bacon and sausages. Vegetarian options are standard and we can cater for special dietary needs with prior notice.

Our local pub, The Red Lion, is 10 minutes' walk and offers an evening menu. Butterton has a great pub, The Black Lion, with excellent food. Our guide for guests includes information and contact details for pubs and restaurants.

Outdoors

We have a large cottage garden and a backdrop of stunning views over our fields and an upland landscape. Behind the house is a sloping lawn and a large west facing terrace. Across the lane is our farmyard, vegetable garden and more pasture land, with our sheep and cattle. You are welcome to explore all this and enjoy an evening drink outdoors when the weather is good.

Out and about

Public footpaths cross our land and we can suggest walks from the house or further afield. We have local maps and guides for your use. Ilam Country Park (National Trust) is a good place to start circular walks, including Dovedale, Bunster hill and Thorpe Cloud. Another favourite of ours is Dimmingsdale, in the Churnet Valley.

This is also great cycling country, using quiet lanes and dedicated cycle trails, with bike hire available. The Manifold Track, Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail are all nearby.

Local market towns, Ashbourne and Leek are worth exploring. Buxton, Bakewell, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are within easy reach via quiet country roads.
